Where We're Going

We are moving strong into the fall season by continuously fundraising and refining the car design. We are also working with Olin administration on giving Phoenix more test and design space.

Goals

The purpose of Phoenix Racing is to provide students at Olin College and surrounding intuitions an opportunity to pursue their passion in cars and engineering. Hands on design, analysis, and fabrication are challenges that we face daily in the course of preparing for the SAE Baja competition.

Schedule

Throughout the fall semester, we will be seeking sponsorship, continuing our design work, and researching newer and more efficient fabrication techniques. We expect to begin fabrication of the car in late November 2007.

Status

At the current stage, we are synthesizing the data and experience that we gathered from last year’s competition and preparing for next year by designing and analyzing chassis designs in Solidworks and COSMOSworks. Shop training is nearly complete for the current freshmen, at this point everyone on the team is lathe and mill trained, and some are pursuing TIG welding in addition to the MIG training they have. A test track is located on the edge of our campus, which we use determine where we can best improve the current car.

Throughout the fall semester, we are be seeking sponsorship, completing the design of the 2008 competition car, and beginning fabrication of the 2008 car in late November.

Budget

Olin College’s Phoenix Racing would immensely benefit from your assistance by greatly increasing our competition potential. Funds and resources would go towards:

• Registration and entry fee for the SAE Baja competition
• Research and Development costs
• High quality materials and tooling
• Transportation and hotel expenses for competitions

Since Phoenix Racing is part of a non-profit organization, your cash and non-cash contributions to the team may be tax-deductable. (If you're not sure, you should ask your tax consultant, you've got a real good chance so check it out!) Additionally, SAE Baja is a well publicized international competition and having your company’s name featured on our car, Phoenix Racing literature, and website, and our shirts will be a most excellent advertisement opportunity.
